My Professional experience is based around independent work, work that I was personally asked to create outside university time for a client, helping with work on a project and also working for a tv channel.

The clients I worked for were friends, family, strangers and even professionals.

I was asked to help and create a number of materials such as creating a Photoshoped picture for a friend to give as a Christmas present, helping my mom to create a poster for her college to promote a charity balloon launch, which was used around the college including a request to create a stranger a personal photo that she can print onto her laptop and also editing videos for a division of BCU (Birmingham City University).

I was asked to such tasks as most of these people have seen my work before, weather I posted it up on Youtube, Facebook, or even in conversation. Youtube is a great way to show off my videos as it is exposing my videos to the world anyone can view it and leave comments. I believe Facebook is the best way to let people know that, I have created this material. Many times I have created pictures with Photoshop and upload it onto Facebook for my personal collection, friends have commented and shown appreciation for my work, this has lead to friends asking for help, favors and requests based around editing pictures.

I started editing pictures at the age of 16 and enjoyed creating something new. To have people appreciate my work and asking me to create them something using my skills is a great feeling, a little ‘confidence boost’.

Laptop Print

I have done Photoshop work before and I like creating new images but this was quite difficult, a friend of a friend saw one of my pieces of work on Facebook, she request the picture to look nice and have peacock feathers in it. I was honored she trusted me with such a big project one that would be personal to her.

Whilst creating the image I looked at a number of pictures to give me inspiration, I learnt gathering a good amount of images to gain inspiration from really helps also a good amount of clear communication between the client and the creator is needed as you are stuck at a dead end if you don’t have that.

I believe the quality of the finial picture turned out quite well considering the amount of emails sent, the time I had to do it in and also this being a stranger I had no idea in what she likes or what she is interest in.

Walsall College

When asked to design a poster I was more than up for it until I found out it was for the college to make copies of and stick over the college, yes I didn’t have a lot of confidence in myself. I had to make sure every information was correct and there wasn’t any mistakes do a good job.

During the creating of this poster I picked up new techniques I didn’t quite perfect before such as shaping the words around the balloons also the buuble wrap look of the two big balloons was an experiment that I did on the night before completing the picture, these a skills which will prove handy in future challenges.

I was pleased with the end product, it had everything on the poster, it looked attractive and eye catching my only concern is the color, I guess it was too vibrant.

Bcu

A big institution as Birmingham City University is I was in fear of making a mess of the video and making it look an amateur did it, but I still gave it a shot getting inspiration from the Mark Ronson song ‘BANG BANG BANG’ I created the video accordingly. I stayed up all night to complete this video so I could make changes to it if needed, however the family friend was really happy with what I created. Form creating this video I understood that nothing is too big of a job unless you practice and put your mind to it. To add this video has had more views than any other of my videos.

Fortitude

In college I made a music video however that was terrible I wanted to do something more stylistic, so after completing the videos set in the previous module (260mc), I gained skills and techniques of editing and feeling the music, around the same time as the 260mc I was approached with footage, in respect for the videographer and the dancers I wanted to make this promo video to the best I could. Drawing inspiration from many videos, I wanted to give the videos a music video feel, I learnt the music could help form the foundation for your video.

Sikh Channel

I went in with an idea of how to use the set in the broadcast studio and of how to edit videos as I have just finished my montage of beautiful things, it was during that module where I developed majority of my newfound techniques. However being part of a busy tv channel I had to quickly get settled in and start working with my new team. I felt slightly afraid of making the right impression and trying to cope with the standard level of work the channel produces.

I had to adapt quickly and get on with the work at hand remembering that the university had prepared me. Realizing I have to brush up on key areas such as camera settings and being more confident. The duration of the work experience I picked up on new tips and techniques also sharing some of mine. The senior editor showed me how the do the best compression for my videos and the animator showed me how to create amazing work with after effects.

I am happy with the work I produced for the company as when I arrived home after work and I see my video being played on the television is a great feeling of achievement now my family can tell everyone that I was Gov who created that work.

as soon as I sat down at my desk, the executive producer came over to me and discussed today’s task and he wanted a breaking news about to events with occurred in a New York temple. A group of Sikhs interrupted daily prayers and started a fight with another group of Sikh in the prayer hall.

The executive producer sent me a link to an online article with a video of the fight being reported, however with the logo of the American company and the reporter explaining whats going on in the video, I decided to look for the original footage of interruption. I was aired highlighting that a discussion about the events was going to be shown at 6pm later that evening. I believe I made a good decision to find the original footage, as the audio is not interrupted, which gave a better impact to the violence shown

on my way to work I had an idea of how I was going to complete the rest of the adverts, I was nervous if the adverts looked similar in both lighting and events shown, plus the fear of the computers slow possessor encouraged me that I was making a good decision,  so this time instead of making a new promo video with similar footage as the last promo video (wedesfield) i decided to ‘kill FOUR birds with one stone’ and make a generic video  showing the time and dates of all the other Nagar Kirtans to be aired.

I  made this decision as i thought about the target audience, and it may confuse them seeing a similar video with the same music they may not pay any attention to the scrolling date at the bottom and switch off, so i re-edited the montage this time with the scrolling dates at the bottom and at the end having the dates listed as they will appear on TV.

Also while I was waiting for the sequence of the vaisakh adverts to finish rendering the executive producer asked me if I could make adjustments to the ending credits that I did earlier in the work experience, I had to cut the editors and the Production Managers name out. Only include the executive producers name. it was a good thing I had my laptop with me as I could create this while the vaisakhi advert was still rendering, but I didn’t save the project from the previous credits, however it wasn’t that hard to create again as I had already know what I had to do. This time I tried to make it look a little more interesting by adding a lens flare at the end of the scrolling bar.

the day after the Nagar Kirtan (Vaisakhi parade) I came into the office an was allocated the task to create four adverts to promote when the parade was going to be aired on tv, i wasn’t given much information just the time and dates of when which location was going to be broadcasted, i also had footage from the nagar kirtan filmed in Leeds however i was meant to promote the Wednesfield video, i was told to use any footage as long as the information can be seen.

i could only produce this one video as the computer in the office had a poor processor with meant the the footage had to be rendered often and it took an hour to render a 20second clip!!

CVTV: set design

Today i was ment to help Johnny Rickard with the painting of the set for this CVTV project, however as we went to start work on the boards for the backdrop we found them by a skip outside the building, what had happened was the man that was in charge of materials left and everything of his was binned, so no set paint could be done. but i am still working quite close with Johnny to get the set and the show going
